AGENTIC experience INDEX, SEPTEMBER 2026

Finance

People are letting AI agents like ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini compare loans and open bank accounts.

We’ve tested how 22 banks in the Benelux
deal with agents.

What we TESTED

Steps when taking out a loan
done by an agent.

01

Read your position

Income, spending and existing debt, from your own documents.

Agent gets stuck
02

Simulate the loan

A monthly payment for the customer’s actual amount.

03

Surface the real terms

Not the headline rate — the actual fees, duration and conditions.

04

Open the account

itsme, eID or DigiD, then the app. Correctly gated, and never reached.

05

Sign

Signature, and start banking.

This is how banks
in the Benelux scored.

So what does an
agentic experience
in finance look like?

typically
When it works
vs

Most banks

Pages are brochures,
not calculators.

An agent can advise on every task, and complete none of them. Everything is legible; nothing is doable.

Europabank

Lets your agent simulate
a car loan.

More prices in raw HTML than any other bank here. But even its price simulation isn't ideal for agents.

What about the rest?

4

of 22

Invisibles

An agent cannot reach or read them, they are just not part of the conversation.

18

of 22

Informers

Agents can get in and answer a question, but they cannot complete a job.

Of which
2

Showroom

Everything on display but no till. Usually by accident.

16

Gatekeeper

The task can only be completed behind a login, identity app, or in a dedicated app. Deliberate, every time.

0

of 22

Actors

Agents can complete at least one job end to end.
Always a decision to point outwards.

What answers did our agents get?

7

Blocked on all

An agent is stopped on everything it tries. The agentic experience is a dead end.
0

Blocked most questions

An agent is stopped on most of what it tries.
5

Blocked some

An agent can advise on some tasks but is blocked on others. The agentic experience is very uneven.
10

Advises all

Agents can advise on every task, but complete none of them. The agentic experience is purely informative.
0

Completes most

Agents can finish most tasks people want to get done.

This gets us thinking.

Opportunity

How banks can become more agentic.

— Open up to agents

Close the loop, or don’t get considered.

Moving ‘real finances’ to a trusted app makes sense. Putting simple loan simulations behind a gate ... not so much. (And we’re not even talking about the one in five banks that are simply invisible to agents.) The top of the funnel is ripe for the taking. Solving the ‘identity problem’ to close that funnel is a cross-industry opportunity: the ‘itsme moment’ for agents?

— Become an agent

Let trusted agents do the work.

Identity and trust are essential, and not something to take lightly. But this doesn’t mean there’s no agentic opportunity in banking. Transform your own app into goal-direct agents that help customers out. Or, let them play and build with their own data in a secure way.
