Just like radiologists, dermatologists struggle with a heavy workload and a cumbersome workflow. During a skin examination, they often need multiple devices for screening, imaging and documenting skin lesions. They are also missing tools that help increase the visibility of malicious lesions. This often makes the whole process of skin imaging time-consuming, which means there’s room for improvement.
That is why Barco developed Demetra, a revolutionary skin imaging platform that provides dermatologists with better and smarter ways of doing skin exams. More than just a dermatoscope, Demetra is designed to perfect a dermatologist’s screening routine so he or she can make confident decisions and provide patients with the best possible care. Its design is so praised that it won the Business Innovation Award at the Henry Van de Velde Awards, Belgium's most important design awards.
Barco developed Demetra’s intuitive software app in cooperation with In The Pocket. This app enables dermatologists to smoothly take dermoscopic, close-up and clinical overview images (all with the same device), and store them in the cloud. It also allows fluent mapping of skin lesions onto a mannequin or clinical overview picture for easy follow-up of skin lesions over time.
The Demetra user interface design matches the clinical workflow of a skin examination and has been extensively tested with dermatologists. Demetra also comes with a dedicated web platform for additional documentation, analysis and reporting purposes.
